When it comes to your home, the rooms that you spend the most time in deserve a little extra attention to detail and planning. This ensures that you are optimising the functionality of your space and more importantly, focusing on enjoying a seamless flow perfect for everyday living within your home.
Once you’ve decided on a floorplan that works for you and your loved ones, the next step is to decide on the ‘look’ of your new home. With so many options available, from flooring to paint colours and cabinetry finishes, this task is understandably overwhelming for some.
Rest assured, our specialist colour consultants are experts in their field and here to help you every step of the way. To help you prepare for your appointment, we have a few additional tips and tricks to make your experience an enjoyable one and leave you confident and excited about your choices.
Pinterest – the digital version of scrapbooking and mood boards. Even if you’re unsure of what your “style” is, once you start exploring what “pinning” is all about, you’ll start to see an emerging theme of what you like within your collection. Bringing your collection along with you to your appointment will assist your colour consultant with interpreting your desired outcome and allow them to offer tailored solutions within your budget while adding some personal touches to really make your brand new home your own. (Beware, Pinterest addiction is a real thing!)
I SAW IT ON THE GRAM
Another great resource for drawing inspiration from is Instagram (IG). You can ‘save’ images in your profile within albums to refer back to later and even add to your Pinterest. IG is great because not only are there loads of images to inspire you but product descriptions are readily available and even link to where to purchase items like furniture and styling pieces so that when you are finished your build, you can easily get started on decorating and projecting your personality into your home.
DON’T OVERTHINK IT!
It can be difficult not to get distracted by the huge array of selections available at your design consultation but sticking to your first instincts will help move things along. You will be surprised as how much can be achieved using the standard available range by mixing textures or tile patterns to optimise your desired look. Starting with a neutral palette will allow you to ‘layer’ and have the ability to change your decor over time as you get comfortable and settle in to your new home.
HOW WILL YOU USE THE SPACE?
It is beneficial to have a chat with your colour consultant about how you will be using certain spaces of your home. Maybe you would like to set up one of the spare rooms as a home office or a media room as a consulting area for your home business? Discussing these items early on will give you the opportunity to plan ahead and utilise those areas to their full potential so that you’re not left wishing you could go back in time. Perhaps you require extra cabinetry for those areas, a bigger window or some detailed panelling? No matter how small or insignificant you think your question may be, our team are happy to listen and ensure that your home works for you and your needs.
SPLURGE OR SAVE?
While you can achieve a stunning look just by using the builder’s range of options, some may feel they want to add a little extra luxe to their home. This could be in the form of tapware for example, maybe you love matte black or brushed brass instead of chrome? Or maybe you have been dreaming of a freestanding bath. These are items to also factor in to your budget and conversation during your appointment. Upgrading items such as benchtops to stone or including an outdoor kitchen will save you not only time and money in the long run, it will also save you the hassle of organising your own trades and quotes later down the track, leaving you to simply sit back and enjoy your beautiful new home.
